The Automatic Control System of Liquid Steel Level in the mold is one of the critical technologies of continuous casting production, which is very important for ensuring safe production of continuous casting machine, reducing labor intensity, improving production efficiency, improving the quality and yield of casting blocks, reducing the accidents of steel overflow and leakage and improve the management level in steel making through continuous casting.

Once the liquid steel is poured into the mold, the liquid steel level must be held stable to avoid its overflow. Otherwise the slag may be carried in due to thedrastic fluctuation of liquid steel level, forming subsurface slag spot on the surface of casting block, which affects adversely its quality. The experiential practice shows that the subsurface slag spot can be eliminated if the liquid level fluctuates within ±10mm. On the contrary, the incidence rate of longitudinal crack on the casting block proves to be 30% if the fluctuation is >10mm. Thisindicates that the fluctuation of steel liquid directly affects the surface quality of casting block.
